GMB Northants Community Branch will be holding an election for branch officers and committee members at the June Branch meeting on Wednesday the 30th June 2021 at 7pm Branch elections are held every 4 years and the branch would normally have had elections in June 2020, but because of the impact of coronavirus they were postponed until 2021 Our branch secretary Gordon Glassford has served the branch for 19 years and wishes to retire, so he will not be standing for election again.

We are holding an informal catch up meeting for all members of the GMB Northants Community Branch on Wednesday the 10th February 2021 at 7pm on Zoom. High street retailer Wilko has ‘rewarded’ its keyworker heroes by cutting their sick pay, GMB has said. The discount high street chain remained open throughout the pandemic thanks to the hard work and dedication of their employees - and remained open on Boxing Day unlike many other retailers. Wilko has repaid this loyalty by announcing devastating cuts to the sick pay of their staff. Read more about Wilko action here British Gas workers are back on strike this week. It’s not where any of us wanted to be. British Gas engineers and staff voted overwhelmingly to strike after boss of parent company Centrica Chris O’Shea threatened to fire them all if they didn’t “accept” cuts to pay and terms and conditions. Will you support British Gas Workers again by emailing the British Gas board and asking them to do the right thing?

War on Want are launching a petition in support of Indian farmers. There is currently a parliamentary inquiry running which is looking at violence and abuse of workers in the retail sector. This is obviously an issue affecting many of our members in retail including those employed by ASDA and Wilko.
