Message from GMB Midland & East Coast Region: To: All GMB role holders in the Midlands Region
Working people have had enough. Ministers partied while people died. Now they do nothing while living standards plummet and P&O lays off hundreds of workers on the spot. It’s time for a new deal for working people, real help with energy bills and a pay rise. GMB Northants Community Branch and Corby Town Council held an event to mark Workers Memorial Day 2022 in Corby on Saturday 30th April 2022.
The event was a great success and commemorated International Workers Memorial Day, below are some photos from the event. The April meeting of the GMB Northants Community Branch will be held on Wednesday the 27th April at 7pm on Zoom. The Zoom meeting link is in our monthly members email and on our WhatsApp Group, you can also request the meeting link from our Branch Secretary A copy of the April Meeting Agenda is here and a copy of the March Summary Minutes are here
The March meeting of the GMB Northants Community Branch took place on Wednesday the 30th March 2022, at 7pm on Zoom. A copy of the Summary Minutes for March can be downloaded here and are also below: Every year more people are killed at work than in wars. Most don't die of mystery ailments, or in tragic "accidents". They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn't that important a priority. International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) 28 April commemorates those workers. On Saturday the 30th April 2022 at 11am, we will hold a Workers Memorial Day Event in Corby at the STEELWORKER STATUE James Ashworth VC Square, Outside The Cube CORBY, Northants, more information below: We have all watched in horror, as authoritarians have wreaked havoc, and spread terror and violence in Ukraine and Syria. But our shared pain is a portal — we can use our wounds to build bridges, and use our solidarity to forge new futures.
On the 25th March, 2022, Rachelle Wilkins (Full-time GMB Officer) and myself visited two of the foodbanks: Corby Food Bank and KCU Kettering Foodbank, that the branch support, with further donations totalling £760
All Refugees Welcome Here!Britain rightly welcomes refugees fleeing war and oppression in the Ukraine. But it's a very different story when brown and black people are fleeing equally oppressive situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen or Palestine. On this UN day against racism, we celebrate the fight of one refugee, Muhammad Idrish campaigning for the right to stay in the UK. We celebrate his powerful, union backed campaign with Banner's latest video ballad- a tribute to all those fleeing oppression, regardless of where they are fleeing from! Here to Fight Here to Stay!Message from War on Want: Just weeks after Amnesty International’s in-depth report on Israel’s apartheid system — and whilst recognising the strength of economic sanctions to pressure Russia to end its invasion of Ukraine -- the UK government is choosing to increase its material support for Israel’s occupation and apartheid regime.
